About the Company
Penhow Bean Counters Ltd was established in January 2003 to provide a range of accountancy, tax and business assistance services to local people in and around Newport, Monmouth and Chepstow. The company is run by its sole director, Simon Brook BSc., CA., who is based in Penhow which enjoys good links to the M4 and A48.
All general accountancy services are provided for businesses and individuals. The company has particular expertise in rural businesses, such as agriculture, guest houses and livery stables; film production and tax advice for people working within the arts; property, including holiday lets; and start-up business support. Simon is also able to offer services as an interim Finance Director.
About Simon Brook, BSc., CA, Director
Simon qualified as a Chartered Accountant with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland working for a medium sized accountancy firm in Edinburgh. This was followed by three years with Touche Ross and Co (now part of Deloitte) in Aberdeen.
He then moved to industry, working for Rolls-Royce plc in Derby for nine years, holding three positions in the company working initially in audit, then as Controller of Corporate Development and then as Financial Controller of Systems and Computing.
Subsequent to this, Simon worked in Swindon as part of a management team responsible for taking an engineering subsidiary of British Rail into the private sector.
He then held various interim roles including working with Rolls-Royce again in Derby and Bristol on a development project; for Allied Domecq, the former drinks group in Bristol; for the Ministry of Defence; for the Hydro graphic Office; and for a high tech business start-up and for the Higher Education Funding Council (which provides the funds for universities in England)
He now exclusively runs Penhow Bean Counters Ltd from the village of Penhow between Newport and Chepstow helping primarily local clients.
